Avoiding holiday weight gain

November and December are always our worst DetoX sales months because we know weight loss is a lost cause during the holidays. January is our best month because we are trying to lose that holiday weight.

We intend to change that and turn November and December into our best months. There is so much temptation around the holidays, we can use them to establish Holiday eating patterns that do not allow for weight gain.

Here is my plan. I tested it over Thanksgiving and intend to perfect it during Christmas and New Years.

Four days before the holiday (in this case Sunday), I begin DetoX and continue for 3 days. Then a day of fruit, veggie broth, salads, and veggie soup (in that order). I enjoy the holiday meal making sure I fix my own plate.

Sunday before New Years Day, I start the same process.

It worked like a charm over Thanksgiving. I ate a little of everything and enjoyed myself. I didn't weigh myself but I think I may have lost a couple of pounds.

Don't be confused by diet soda

A storm is brewing in New York because the State wants to tax regular soda and not diet soda. The implication is that diet soda is better for you than regular soda. In fact diet soda may be worse than regular soda since it contains artificial sweeteners (chemicals) which may be (and probably are) worse than plain old sugar.

This is not an argument in defense of soda. Neither soda nor diet soda should be consumed by anyone interested in their health. The current diet soda vs soda argument only serves to confuse since both are manufactured and sold by the same people.

Soda is a poor substitute for traditional fermented drinks such as root beer and ginger ale. Fermented drinks aid in digestion and general health. they take time to prepare but it is time well spent.
