I expressed my intention to lose 50 pounds

I expressed my intention to lose 50 pounds at a dinner this week and friends asked 3 questions in succession.
  1. Why try to lose so much weight?
  2. How do you intend to lose it?
  3. Why not simply exercise more and eat less?
I hope to motivate a discussion by sharing my answers
Why try to lose so much weight?
Its not so much about losing weight as it is transforming myself into a different level of health. In order to lose 50 pounds and keep it off, eating better and eating less will have to become habitual. Losing 50 pounds takes me 25 pounds below what I consider normal. It is 25 pounds below my high school weight. It is what I weighed (175 lbs) when I was in the best shape of my life. Weight will simply be the yardstick by which I measure my progress toward a healthier me.
How do I intend to lose the 50 lbs?
I intend to cleanse 2 or 3 days each week and eat little (if any) meat or bread on the remaining days. Usually the cleansing will involve DetoX but I intend to experiment with other cleansing regimens.
Why not simply exercise more and eat less?
I consider exercise an important as a cleansing activity and for maintaining a balanced weight. I will do light exercise every day. For me, exercising to lose weight doesn't work. Eating less is easier said than done and is the reason I intend to cleanse 2 or 3 days each week. DetoX slashes my appetite.

I kept putting off my spring DetoX

I looked up and it was summer. I was sluggish, stomach bloated, gaseous, allergies flaring up, and I had a headache. I knew DetoX would solve those issues so I started--middle of the day, no lemons, and a 400 mile drive coming up.
Day 0
Usually this is a preparation day. I make the lemonade, make the tea, and drink 1/2 cup before bed. This time my objective was simply getting started. I made the tea at about 1pm, drank 1/2 cup, drank a lot of water (no lemons), nibbled at dinner, and had another 1/2 cup DetoX before bedtime.
Day 1
Bunch of bowel movements early (odorless, floating). No lemonade so I drank 1 1/2 quarts of water then 1/2 cup of DetoX. Felt sluggish all day and a little hungry in the evening so I ate some cherries. I think hunger and fatigue were due to the absence of lemonade. drank 2nd 1/2 cup before bed. No sneezing. No headache.
Day 2
Bowel movements sank to bottom of the toilet (dark mucous with a metallic odor). Again drank six cups of water before morning DetoX. bought lemons and made 2 quarts of lemonade which I drank before evening detox. No hunger, no headache, sneezed once, stomach noticeably flatter, and less fatigue.
Day 3
Bowel movements less frequent but still sink (yellow with a milder odor). Drank the 6 cups of water before DetoX (I'm starting to like that ritual). Drank 1 quart of vegetable juice and began my transition to solid food with watermelon and tomato soup. The only reason I'm not continuing with DetoX is a 400 mile drive to chicago tomorrow.
